Growing up in a less privileged family has not only offered financial and academic challenges, but it has more importantly made me realize the value of a college education. My mother is currently employed as a public elementary school teacher. Since my father died ten years ago, my mother is the only one who is supporting my education. If not for my scholarship grant, my mother will certainly not be able to continue supporting my college education, and this is just one of the things that make me very thankful for my Ateneo college scholarship-there is more.

I have just begun my Chemistry undergraduate career at the Ateneo de Manila University. I can say that I am really blessed to have this opportunity to study in a university that offers one of the finest chemistry programs in the country and I consider myself fortunate to be able to attend to school without worrying about the financial costs. Of course, going through an Ateneo education program is no bed of roses, but because of the culturally diverse social interaction that the university offers, I soon found my niche as a student and as a servant of the less privileged Filipino communities. The university also gives its students adequate academic and spiritual formations that made me and will continue to make me a better person.

I could have not experienced all these great things if not for my Ateneo college scholarship. I am very glad that I am one of those given the opportunity to be a "man for others" through an Ateneo education.
